- Keep leather furniture out of the sun because it can fade the colour and dry out the leather.
- Clean up spot spills immediately to avoid staining, time is of the essence here.
- Be careful if cleaning with products, test it first in an inconspicuous place.
- If you have a pool, don’t sit on your leather lounge until you are dry again. Chemicals from pools will stain, and too much water is not good for leather.
- Colour loss or discoloration caused by body oil is the most common problem to arise in leather furniture. Body oil damage happens on the skin touchpoints of the furniture. Regular cleaning of these areas will help prevent damage.
Benefits of Leather Lounges
Leather is a natural product, where aging develops a natural patina, staying attractive over time. Leather furniture is something you can enjoy for many years, or a lifetime. It lasts much longer than fabric so it can be better value over time.
Leather furniture warms to your body heat during the winter and stays pleasantly cool through summer because it's natural and can breathe.
How to Care for Leather Furniture
How to Clean a Leather Lounge, Chairs, and Other Furniture
Most experts agree that cleaning your leather furniture is simple. Carefully read the manufacturer’s instructions before cleaning. Dust off your furniture regularly by vacuuming in crevices, and clean with a dry brush or a lightly dampened towel before letting it air dry naturally. If you do choose to use extra products other than a damp cloth, don’t scour aggressively, and spot test it first in a non-visible place. Many specialists recommend just cleaning with water, or a very basic soap like Lux, but to clean off again with a slightly damp cloth and let air dry naturally.
For small scratches on the surface, use a chamois to gently buff the scratch. Some specialists advise using baby oil, but once again, test this out on a hidden section first.
For butter or oil stains, wipe it off with a clean dry cloth, and then leave it alone as the spot should dissipate after a short time. If the stain persists, find a professional cleaner to avoid any potential damage.

Distinguishing features of genuine leather
This leather is from genuine cattle hide. During its life the animal may have been in contact with barbed wire, bushes or the horns of other animals. These encounters may leave scars and scratches that have healed naturally. They do not detract from the wearing qualities of the leather, in fact they enhance its appearance as they are the proof marks of genuine leather.
Do not dry clean
Do not machine wash
Do not use detergents, solvents, abrasives, leather cleaners or suede cleaners.
Do not dry clean or machine wash.
Protect from direct sunlight and heat sources, both direct and through heating vents.
Avoid sharp objects.
To clean leathers: Use only a white damp cloth that is colourfast.
Vacuum regularly with the soft brush attachment of the vacuum cleaner to remove dust and grit, then wipe with a soft, colour-fast cloth dampened with plain water. This should be done as often as
necessary or at least every 2-3 weeks.
Special Note: The salts and body oils which occur naturally in human skin can damage the surface of leather if left uncleaned for lengthy periods. In warm or humid weather it is important that leather be wiped over as often as weekly, particularly if the leather has become damp with perspiration or deposits of body oils are visible on areas such as head rests.
Ensure non colourfast clothing does not come into contact with light coloured leathers.
Always clean along any creases that have developed in the leather and pay any particular attention to areas that come in contact with the skin as head-rests, arm-pads or seat cushions.
Deterioration due to incorrect or inadequate maintenance cannot be considered a fault in the leather and claims due to this will not be entertained.
